Takaya
Golf Centre
In
June 1992, Takaya Developments, Ltd.’s partners initiated a second
business venture. A 5-acre site at the northern edge of Burrardview IR #3 was
selected for development as a driving range.
This facility was designed to include a clubhouse with pro shop and
restaurant, a two level tee area, a driving range enclosed with high
netting, and a 50 stall paved parking area.
The facility was constructed in 1993 at a cost of
approximately 2.1 million. In
December 1994, the TWN assumed full ownership of the development at no
financial cost to the Nation. The
Takaya Golf Centre was thereafter established as a sole proprietorship
business owned by the Tsleil-Waututh Nation.
The Nation’s economic development department overlooks the golf
centre and an operations manager was hired to run day-to-day activities.
The Takaya Golf Centre currently offers regular driving
range services and sells snack foods as well as a few clothing items.
Its concession facilities are currently unutilized.
A part of its facilities are used as an office location for the
Takaya Development’s construction and real estate management staff.
